Assessment method

There are three ways for exporters to prove the conformity of their products and obtain a Certificate of Conformity (CoC):

Path A: Applicable to any goods and any trader;

Path B: Recommended for common exporters with homogeneous products (registration is renewed annually and requires continuous compliance);

Path C: For certified products.

Certificate of Conformity (CoC)

The Certificate of Conformity (CoC) is a document issued to certify that the goods comply with the relevant approved standards.

(1) This document is required for customs clearance;

(2) For goods shipped to Zanzibar without a CoC certificate of conformity, the importer may be subject to a 15% CIF (cost, insurance and freight) penalty.

(3) The Zanzibar Bureau of Standards (ZBS) will only approve the release of goods that have completed testing (if applicable) and verified that they comply with the standards. It is the seller's responsibility to ensure that only goods with a valid certificate of conformity or a certification decision confirming compliance are delivered to Zanzibar.
